Well, it looks like Desperate Housewives may have run its course in the United States, but they’re just getting started in Africa. According to the Huffington Post, a derivative of the show titled, Desperate Housewives of Africa, is schedule to air this summer.
The series will be co-produced by Disney Media and Nigeria’s EbonyLife TV. EbonyLife CEO, Mo Abudu, has expressed that the series will offer the same Desperate Housewives feel, but will have “an African soul.” The cast is said to be comprised of both new and established pan-African actresses, who will showcase clothing by Nigerian dress designers throughout the series.
Mo Abudu went on to say that the show will be filmed on location in a gated community of the Lekki suburb in Lagos.
“[Desperate Housewives of Africa offers] the opportunity to engage African audiences through locally relevant and entertaining storytelling,” said Disney EMEA general manager, Giovanni Mastrangelo.
Giovanni adds that Desperate Housewives spin-offs have already been produced in Turkey, Argentina and Brazil.
Desperate Housewives of Africa sounds awesome! Hopefully there will be some sort of way that we can tune in from time to time.
