Differences between Black Americans and African Immigrants

1. Black Americans have lived in America for 500 years most Africans are recent arrivals who have been in America for about a little more than 30 years

2. Black Americans make up 90 percent of the American Black population. African immigrants make up about 10 percent

2. African immigrants generally tend to have a higher educational attainment than Black Americans.  50% have a bachelors degree one of the highest rates in the world

3. African immigrants speak a variety of languages whereas Black Americans tend to be monolingual in English

4. African immigrants tend to be more culturally conservative whereas Black Americans are very liberal

4. African immigrants tend to have more stable families than Black Americans

5. With the exception of a few groups Black Americans tend to be lighter skinned than Africans
